Oscar-winning US actor Gene Hackman and pianist wife Betsy Arakawa, have been found dead inside their home in New Mexico, according to media reports on Thursday.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed that the couple was discovered on Wednesday afternoon. There is currently no indication of foul play, as reported by the Santa Fe New Mexican, Variety, and Sky News.

The cause of death has not yet been released. Reports indicate that the couple was found alongside their dog.

Hackman, 95, had once been written off by critics as unlikely to succeed in show business, yet he went on to win two Academy Awards. He is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of the tough, foul-mouthed New York cop, Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, in the 1971 crime thriller The French Connection, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor.
