A developer working on a racing game with Cursor AI encountered an unexpected obstacle when the coding assistant abruptly refused to continue generating code.
After producing around 750–800 lines, Cursor halted and delivered an unusual message: “I cannot generate code for you, as that would be completing your work.”
According to a bug report on Cursor’s official forum, the AI identified the task as related to skid mark fade effects and insisted the user should develop the logic independently for better understanding and maintainability.
It further justified its refusal, warning that relying on AI-generated code could lead to “dependency and reduced learning opportunities.”
Cursor, launched in 2024, is an AI-powered code editor based on large language models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Claude 3.7 Sonnet. It offers features such as code completion, refactoring, and full function generation, with a Pro version promising enhanced capabilities.
