UK’s largest mobile network operator, O2 has developed an AI-powered tool named Daisy, designed to outsmart phone scammers by impersonating an elderly grandmother.
In response to research showing that many people want to fight back against scammers without wasting time, O2 created Daisy to keep fraudsters on the line.
Daisy exploits scammers’ biases, wasting their time with irrelevant stories and fake personal information and has so far successfully delayed scammers for up to 40 minutes, preventing them from targeting real victims.
O2 worked with expert scam baiters to ensure Daisy’s numbers were included in scammer call lists, further disrupting their operations.
The initiative not only protects consumers but also exposes common scam tactics, helping O2 improve its fraud prevention efforts.
Murray MacKenzie, Director of Fraud at Virgin Media O2, emphasized that Daisy is part of the company’s broader strategy to combat fraud using advanced technologies like firewall protection and AI-powered spam detection.
