On the occasion of its annual presidency of the G20, Brazil unveiled a world map that includes the full geographical representation of the Kingdom of Morocco, encompassing its southern provinces.
The map, produced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and presented to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, highlights the member countries of G20 —19 nations alongside the African Union and the European Union—of which Brazil holds the rotating presidency.
The map also showcases countries where Brazil has diplomatic missions, reflecting the country’s extensive global presence, particularly in Africa.
According to the IBGE, “the production of this map presents an opportunity for Brazil to assert itself on the international stage in line with its G20 presidency.”
During a visit by Brazil’s Foreign Minister to Morocco last June, the Federative Republic of Brazil commended the Kingdom’s serious and credible efforts to settle the Moroccan Sahara issue, emphasizing support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007.
In a joint statement, Brazil reaffirmed its support for UN efforts to achieve a political and mutually acceptable resolution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
