A British MP has called on the UK government to increase pressure on the Algerian military regime to stop the persecution of the Kabyle people, who are seeking self-determination and independence. During a public session, the MP urged the British government to elevate the Kabyle issue to the forefront of public discourse, citing alarming human rights conditions in Algeria. The Kabyle population faces ethnic, religious, and linguistic persecution.
The MP also highlighted U.S. reports that put Algeria’s human rights record under scrutiny, stressing that the UK must consider these findings to effectively pressure the Algerian government.
In response, the British government immediately stated that it has channels through which it expresses its concerns to the Algerian regime, urging an end to the persecution of the Kabyle people.
