Defense lawyers for Michael Jeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, have raised concerns that he may have dementia, potentially affecting his ability to face sex trafficking charges.
In court documents unsealed Monday, defense attorneys stated that a neuropsychologist, who evaluated Jeffries in October, diagnosed him with dementia, likely Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
A competency hearing has been scheduled for June, where experts will testify to determine whether Jeffries is fit to stand trial.
Jeffries, 80, was released on a $10 million bond after pleading not guilty to federal sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges in October.
Prosecutors allege that between 2008 and 2015, Jeffries, along with his romantic partner and a third man, lured men into drug-fueled sex parties in the U.S, England, France, Italy, Morocco and St. Barts.
