The incident occurred after revelers in Doha rushed to the subway following New Year’s Eve celebrations

Dozens of people have been injured in a stampede following New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Qatari capital, Doha, Sputnik and Xinhua reported on Wednesday, citing witnesses.

The incident reportedly occurred at a subway station in the Doha suburb of Lusail, after the fireworks display and an open-air concert with live DJs. According to media reports, people were injured in a stampede as they rushed to the station near Lusail Boulevard to catch the last trains before the subway closed for the night.

Emergency medical teams were reportedly called to the site. Videos posted on X purportedly show doctors treating the injured in the subway station following the stampede.

The local authorities have not yet commented on the incident. There is no exact information on the number of injuries.

This is the third time that Lusail Boulevard, which is located north of Doha and stretches 1.3km, has hosted New Year’s celebrations.

The Qatari government initially extended the event until 2:00am local time, but the event concluded at 1:00am, reports suggested.
