Expo Chicago has named the 170-plus exhibitors that will take part in the fair’s upcoming 2025 edition, slated to run April 24–27 at the Navy Pier.
This edition of Expo Chicago will see one significant change with the presence of 20 Korean galleries at the fair, part of a new partnership with Galleries Association of Korea (Gaok) that is supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This partnership is part of the new direction for the fair now that it is under the Frieze umbrella; Frieze Seoul runs alongside Gaok’s Kiaf Seoul each year.
Among the galleries that will take part via this partnership are Gallery Baton, BHAK, Gallery Joeun, Lee & Bae, and One and J. Gallery.
“As we enter the second year of EXPO CHICAGO as part of Frieze, we are proud to expand on new initiatives, including a significant collaboration with Galleries Association of Korea, made possible through Frieze’s global reach,” Frieze’s executive director of fairs Kristell Chadé said in a statement. “We look forward to presenting a dynamic selection of artists and exhibitors, while exploring how the crosspollination between our fairs can add value to each, fostering new connections and opportunities across regions.”
In a statement, Gaok president Hwang Dalseung said, “This event was based on the synergy between Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul, which have already created a new model of win-win through fair-to-fair collaboration in the contemporary art market, where various entities are collaborating in various ways, and this time we will take the first step towards the internationalization of Korean art distribution with EXPO CHICAGO.”
Drawing together galleries from 36 countries and 93 cities, this year’s Expo Chicago will feature more than 50 first-time exhibitors at the fair, including Lehmann Maupin, Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, Two Palms, and ILY2 in its main Galleries section. Other returning blue-chip exhibitors include Almeida & Dale,Document, Monique Meloche, David Nolan Gallery, Nara Roesler, Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, Ryan Lee Gallery, Southern Guild, and Yares Art.
The Exposure section, organized by the Walker Art Center’s visual arts curator Rosario Güiraldes, focuses on galleries 10 years and younger with an emphasis on solo and two-artist presentations. This year’s iteration features first-time exhibitors to the fair like April April, Mitre, Megan Mulrooney, Gratin, and OCHI.
Additionally, Lauren Haynes, the head curator of Governor Island Arts, will head up a new section within the main Galleries section that will include four booths, GRAY, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, The Melrose Gallery, and Pippy Houldsworth Gallery. Jessica S. Hong, chief curator at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, will organize the IN/SITU section for large-scale works that are spread out across the fair.
In a statement, Expo Chicago president and director Tony Karman said, “Looking ahead to the 2025 edition of EXPO CHICAGO, we’re excited to showcase an incredible lineup of curatorial talent, gallery presentations, special projects, and collaborations aimed at engaging new audiences.”
