A Florida school board has banned “Ban This Book” by Alan Gratz, a children’s novel about a girl who creates a secret library after her school board removes books.
The board voted to remove the book, overruling a district review committee’s recommendation to keep it in the school library.
Members argued it encouraged rebellion and referenced previously banned books. The move was led by Jennifer Pippin, head of the local Moms for Liberty chapter, a conservative group pushing for book removals.
Gratz, the book’s author, called the decision “incredibly ironic,” saying officials banned the book “because it talks about book banning.”
