French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin expressed his thanks to the Moroccan authorities for their help in the capture of one of France’s biggest drug traffickers, Félix Bengui, known as “the Cat,” who was arrested in March 2024 in Casablanca.

Darmanin took it to X and stated, “Minister of the Interior, I secured the arrest in Morocco of one of our country’s biggest drug traffickers, Félix Bingui, known as The Cat.”

He continued, “today, as Minister of Justice, I want to sincerely thank the Moroccan authorities for starting the extradition process, which will finally enable the French judiciary to bring him to justice.” The French Minister described this as a “victory over drug banditry.”

Félix Bingui, a 34-year-old Moroccan suspected of leading the Yoda narcotics clan, was arrested on March 8, 2024, in Casablanca.

Yoda has been engaged in a violent turf war with the rival DZ Mafia gang in Marseille, where Bingui is accused of orchestrating a bloody drug war, according to French media outlets.

The same source emphasized that he is now in the process of being extradited to France.

It underscored that “the French Justice Minister worked discreetly with his Moroccan counterpart upon his arrival at Place Vendôme to secure the extradition agreement.”

Félix Bingui had been arrested under an international warrant issued by a Marseille investigating judge for charges including “importation of narcotics in an organized gang, transportation, possession, acquisition, transfer of narcotics, criminal association, money laundering, and failing to justify resources.”

In April 2024, he agreed to be extradited during a hearing at the Court of Cassation in Rabat, said Bingui’s lawyer, Philippe Ohayon to AFP, stressing that they trust that “the judges handling the case will approach it calmly and independently, with full respect for the defendant’s rights.”
