French prosecutors announced on Tuesday that no criminal investigation can be opened into a raft of sexual abuse accusations against charity icon Abbe Pierre, who died in 2007, because the statute of limitations had expired.
The announcement comes after France’s Catholic Church asked prosecutors in January to probe the iconic priest as well as all those guilty of a “failure to denounce rape and sexual assault of vulnerable people and minors”.
