A hacker group has demanded that French energy giant Schneider Electric pay a ransom of $125,000 in baguettes after allegedly stealing 40GB of sensitive data.
According to Bleeping Computer, the group gained access to Schneider’s JIRA system, potentially compromising critical information about the company’s projects, staff, and user data.
The hackers claim to have stolen over 400,000 rows of user data, including details about ongoing projects, issues, and plugins.
The ransom demand, unusual in its specific request for baguettes, also comes with a twist: if Schneider Electric publicly acknowledges the breach, the ransom would be halved to $62,500 worth of baguettes.
The hacker group taunted Schneider with proof of the breach and threatened to release the stolen data unless the demand is met.
Schneider Electric, for its part, confirmed the breach but did not specify the full extent of the damage. In a statement, the company said it was investigating the incident and that its services and products remained unaffected.
As of now, it’s unclear whether Schneider has complied with the hacker’s terms.
