India has become the fifth country in the world to successfully conduct space docking, joining an exclusive group that includes the U.S., Russia, China, and Japan.
The SpaDeX mission, launched from Sriharikota on December 30, involved two spacecraft—“Chaser” and “Target”—which were separated in space before successfully docking. The docking, originally planned for January 7, was delayed several times.
On Thursday, ISRO announced the success, marking a significant milestone in India’s space program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present at ISRO’s Bangalore office during the test, celebrated the achievement, calling it “a major stepping stone for India’s ambitious space missions in the years to come.”
