An Indian man successfully sued a cinema chain for showing too many trailers and ads before his movie, causing him to miss important work meetings.

In December 2023, Abhishekh M.R. paid $10 for three tickets to watch Sam Bahadur at a PVR theater in Bengaluru. The movie was delayed by 30 minutes due to trailers and ads, causing him to miss scheduled appointments.

Abhishekh demanded $570 in damages and $60 for “mental agony.” In January 2024, a consumer court ruled in his favor, stating the delay violated consumer guidelines. PVR was ordered to pay $320 in damages and $1,150 in fines. The court criticized the excessive ads and emphasized that wasting customers’ time for profit was unfair.
