Israeli forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahia early Friday, detaining dozens of individuals inside, according to a senior official in the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
Munir Al-Bursh, Director General of the Health Ministry, told German news agency DPA that Israeli troops entered the hospital premises and issued an evacuation order through loudspeakers, giving staff and patients only 15 minutes to comply.
“There was widespread panic and chaos among the 170 people inside the hospital, including patients and medical staff,” Al-Bursh said. The Israeli soldiers reportedly forced everyone to gather in the hospital courtyard, ordering men to strip their clothes.
Al-Bursh added that the military detained dozens of men, and communication with the remaining medical staff inside the facility was completely severed. He held the Israeli military fully responsible for the lives of the patients and medical personnel and urged the international community to intervene to halt what he described as “massacres” against Gaza’s healthcare system.
Eyewitnesses reported that parts of the hospital were set ablaze by the Israeli forces, with large plumes of smoke and flames visible, accompanied by loud explosions.
The raid comes nearly two months into Israel’s extensive military operation in northern Gaza, launched with the stated aim of preventing Hamas from rebuilding its military capabilities in the region.
Kamal Adwan Hospital has been targeted multiple times during the campaign, resulting in the deaths of patients and medical staff, according to health officials in Gaza.
The situation has drawn international concern over the mounting humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where hospitals and civilian infrastructure have been repeatedly struck during the ongoing military operation.
