Israeli bombardment has completely destroyed 81 mosques in the city of Rafah, southern Gaza, the Rafah Municipality tells AFP on Monday.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the municipality reported that “81 mosques were entirely demolished in Rafah, while the remaining mosques suffered severe damage during the genocide and ethnic cleansing war.”

On January 19, Ahmed Al-Soufi, Mayor of Rafah, declared the city a disaster zone due to the extensive destruction caused by over eight months of Israeli military operations. At the time, he called for a comprehensive emergency plan to rebuild the city and restore its damaged infrastructure.
