A man was killed and an Israeli tourist was gang-raped near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi in southern India, police say. The attack occurred Thursday night near a lake in Sanapur.
According to police superintendent Ram Arasiddi, a group of men attacked five people: two women (an Israeli tourist and an Indian homestay operator) and three male tourists (one American). The group was stargazing.
Police say the attackers pushed the men into a canal. Two men, including the American, survived. The body of the third man was found Saturday. The Indian woman was also gang-raped.
Police believe the attackers followed the group and have arrested two suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
