Large areas of Spain and Portugal, including the capital cities Madrid and Lisbon, have been affected by a significant power outage.
Spain’s power grid operator, Red Electrica, confirmed the outage and stated it is working with energy companies to restore power as quickly as possible.
Reports indicate several major Spanish cities like Seville, Barcelona, and Valencia are also impacted. Telephone lines across Spain were reported to be down.
In Madrid, the outage caused disruptions, with parts of the underground metro system being evacuated and traffic lights failing. Play was also suspended at the Madrid Open tennis tournament.
Some Spanish media reports suggest parts of France may also be experiencing related issues. Authorities are working to determine the cause and extent of the outage.
