The European Parliament is facing growing criticism ahead of a closed-door meeting on January 28, where representatives of the Polisario Front will discuss recent rulings by the Court of Justice concerning EU-Morocco agreements on trade and fisheries in the Sahara.
The meeting, initiated by the far left, has sparked outrage among many MEPs, particularly members of the Patriots for Europe group, including Thierry Mariani who condemned the invitation, calling it an attempt by the Polisario to re-enter the EU Parliament through “the back door” after losing its official intergroup on the Sahara.
He highlighted concerns over the Polisario’s ties to Algeria, links with Islamist groups, and past attacks on Moroccan civilians.
Mariani also stressed that the invitation undermines the reputation of the European Parliament and harms EU-Morocco relations, calling for its cancellation.
