Republican Congresswoman Kay Granger of Texas, who has not cast a vote in the U.S. House since July, has been living in a senior care facility due to “dementia issues,” her family revealed.
Granger, 81, has represented Texas’s 12th district since 1997, but her prolonged absence from Congress went unnoticed until a local reporter uncovered her whereabouts.
Despite having served as chair of the House Appropriations Committee until 2023, Granger’s health challenges have raised concerns about her ability to fulfill her duties.
Critics, including local Republican leaders, have questioned her continued re-election and the lack of representation for her district, especially during key votes on disaster relief and the debt ceiling. Granger’s office acknowledged the health difficulties but thanked the public for their concern.
