Moroccans residing in Spain remain the leading group of foreign workers affiliated with the social security system, according to official figures released Monday in Madrid.
The total number of Moroccans affiliated with Spain’s social security system stood at 350,433 by the end of February 2025, making them the largest group of foreign contributors, according to data from the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration.
Moroccans are followed by Romanians (335,223), Colombians (220,030), Italians (192,544), and Venezuelans (178,187).
The total number of foreign workers affiliated with Spain’s social security system reached 2,874,398 in February, with an average increase of 31,369 foreign affiliates, marking a 1.1% rise compared to the previous month.
Among these foreign workers contributing to Spain’s social security, 1,975,868 are from non-EU countries (68.8%), while 898,529 come from European Union member states (31.2%).
Additionally, 73,231 Ukrainians are registered in the social security system, an increase of 25,653 (+54%) since January 2022.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the number of foreign workers affiliated with social security increased by 15,804 in February compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 2,971,811 employed persons (7.6% more than a year ago), setting a new historical record.
Since 2022, the system has incorporated 604,592 foreign workers, a 26.6% increase. The ministry noted that 44.1% of the jobs created in the country over the past three years have been filled by foreign workers.
