The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously adopted Morocco’s biennial resolution on “Promoting Sustainable Tourism, including Ecotourism, for Poverty Eradication and Environmental Protection,” now in its 14th year.
Morocco led the resolution with support from 109 countries, highlighting sustainable tourism’s role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The resolution stresses the need for resilience in tourism against climate shocks and natural disasters, and for social protection of tourism workers.
This move solidifies Morocco’s leadership in sustainable tourism at the UN, aligning with its 2026 tourism strategy aimed at boosting the sector and creating 200,000 jobs. Morocco also committed to working with the UN World Tourism Organization to promote sustainable, resilient tourism as a tool for poverty reduction.
The resolution calls for global collaboration to invest in sustainable tourism and align policies with national priorities.
