Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has set a three-minute limit on hugs at its drop-off zone, aiming to ease congestion and improve safety.

“Max hug time 3 minutes. For fonder farewells please use the car park,” a sign at the airport read.

CEO Dan De Bono told media that the measure was intended to keep the area flowing smoothly, as extended goodbyes were causing delays.

While acknowledging airports as “hotbeds of emotion,” De Bono noted the rule is a lighthearted way to address a serious issue, adding that the new signs have sparked significant attention.
