Norwegian police have arrested Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, on suspicion of committing rape. The arrest took place late Monday evening in Oslo.

Høiby, 26, is the son of the Crown Princess from a previous relationship. He does not hold any royal titles or official duties and is not part of the royal family’s formal responsibilities.

Authorities have charged Høiby with an initial offense of “engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl who was unconscious or otherwise unable to resist,” a charge that allows the police to detain the suspect during the investigation.

While the police have not disclosed when the alleged incident occurred, they confirmed that the victim was unable to resist. Norwegian media reports state that Høiby has denied the accusations.

The charge is preliminary and does not yet constitute an official indictment. The investigation is ongoing.
