The coronation of King Charles in May 2023 cost at least £72 million, with £21.7 million spent on policing and £50.3 million on related costs handled by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), official figures have revealed by British media show.
Despite attracting 20 million viewers, significantly fewer than the 29 million who watched Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, the event featured global dignitaries and a high-profile concert at Windsor Castle.
DCMS’s annual report described the coronation as a “once-in-a-generation moment” that united the nation and showcased the UK to the world.
