Spanish authorities have successfully thwarted a large-scale drug and arms trafficking operation in Melilla. The operation, which took place last Monday, targeted an international trafficking network known as “Candela,” aiming to move cocaine, psychotropic drugs, and firearms through Morocco towards Sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Assabah, the seized items included assault rifles, pistols, large quantities of ammunition, marijuana, and over 38,000 psychotropic tablets, with a market value exceeding €244,000.

Nine individuals, already known to security services for drug and medicine trafficking between Melilla, Malaga, and Morocco, were arrested.

The investigation began in June, when the Guardia Civil identified a group preparing to transport suspicious medicines suspected of being psychotropics.

The group’s leader, a resident of Malaga, was financing and coordinating the operation. A search of his home led to the discovery of firearms and compromising documents. The operation also uncovered a stolen luxury vehicle and various electronic devices linked to the criminal network.
