Dozens of Black people across the U.S. have reported receiving alarming text messages claiming they were “selected” to pick cotton at the nearest plantation.
The messages read in part: “Our Executive Slaves will come get you in a Brown Van” and instructed recipients to be prepared to be searched upon arrival at the plantation.
Many of those targeted, including college students from schools expressed fear and confusion about how their numbers were obtained.
Black Americans:
”You are in SLAVE GROUP X” messages are being received in at least a dozen states.
I also received a message.
The majority of White Americans have spoken.
What can we do if they try to implement this?

Some, like Domonique Valles, a USC student, have filed complaints with the FBI, which has acknowledged the issue, NBC news reported.
Though the identity of the sender remains unclear, some of the texts are linked to the TextNow messaging service, which provides untraceable phone numbers.
The messages were condemned by various organizations, including The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the FBI, and many believe they are an attempt to intimidate Black people, particularly in light of the recent election.
