The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has apologized for issuing a personalized license plate that sparked controversy after being linked to Oct7, AP reported.
The plate, seen on a Tesla Cybertruck near Los Angeles, read “LOLOCT7” and was flagged by the watchdog group StopAntisemitism for allegedly referencing the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
The truck’s owner’s family disputes this interpretation. The owner’s son explained that the plate had a personal meaning unrelated to the attack. “LOLO” is a Filipino term for “grandfather,” while “CT” stands for Cybertruck and the number “7” symbolizes the owner’s seven children.
He described the incident as a misunderstanding.
In response, the DMV acknowledged the error, calling the plate “unacceptable and disturbing.”
A spokesperson stated that the license plate should never have passed the review process.
