Turkish riot police fired rubber bullets and pepper gas as they clashed with demonstrators Friday during a massive protest in Istanbul and the western city of Izmir, AFP correspondents and Turkish media reports said.
Police made heavy use of pepper gas and fired rubber bullets during clashes outside Istanbul City Hall, an AFP correspondent said, while in Izmir, riot police used water canon and tear gas to try to disperse protesters, the opposition Halk TV said.
