France 24 correspondent Jessica Le Masurier reports from the UN’s New York headquarters, where the Security Council passed a US-drafted resolution on Monday which refuses to condemn Russia’s role as the sole instigator of the Ukraine war. 10 member states voted in favor of the resolution, none opposed it, and France, Britain, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia all abstained. “This resolution did not condemn Russian aggression, or the invasion, or call for Ukraine’s territorial integrity to be guaranteed,” says Le Masurier, prompting a failed bid from European nations to amend the resolution hours after the UN General Assembly widely agreed to support Ukraine and condemn Russian aggression in a “small victory” for Ukraine’s European allies.
