The Consulate General of Morocco in Valencia said it has implemented measures to assist the Moroccan community in response to the devastating floods in the region.

An informed source told Hespress that the consulate has been notified of approximately 20 missing Moroccans in the area, though no fatalities have been reported so far.

The body coordinating emergency services in the eastern Valencia region announced a provisional death toll of 92, adding that bodies were still being recovered and identified.

The toll is likely to rise because “there are many missing people”, government minister Angel Victor Torres told public broadcaster TVE.

In an announcement received by Hespress, the Moroccan Consulate General in Valencia stated that it has established a “crisis cell” tasked with monitoring all cases that require assistance, including travel to locations where victims may be present and coordinating with local authorities.

The consulate also confirmed that two phone numbers, 631.71.18.73 and 631.93.58.18, have been dedicated to supporting affected members of the Moroccan community and reporting missing persons.

The consulate said it was in contact with various civil society organizations in the Valencia region to ensure ongoing coordination regarding missing cases, emphasizing its commitment to taking all necessary actions.

The flood toll is Spain’s deadliest since 1973.
