A UK NHS employee has been awarded nearly £30,000 after a court ruled it was “insulting” to compare her to Star Wars villain Darth Vader during a workplace exercise.
The plaintiff’s colleague filled out a Star Wars-themed personality quiz on her behalf and told others she shared traits with the infamous Sith Lord.
Although meant as a team-building activity, the tribunal found the comparison caused Rooke distress and constituted a workplace “detriment.”
The employment judge said linking someone to a “legendary villain” was understandably upsetting, acknowledging the emotional impact and ruling that it amounted to a workplace detriment.
