Our standards
Why we do it this way
Here is where our choices come from, so you never have to guess.
What you will notice
- There is no music or musical sound anywhere on this site.
- Our own graphics are a logo and an icon. We do not use photos of people or animals.
- Software can suggest, but anything it is unsure about goes to a person.
- We never give a score, and we never say a publisher or an item has been given a seal of approval.
Where these choices come from
Every rule rests on a written standard shared by all Byesar projects, called the ECS (Ethical Content Standard). Its basis is the Qur'an and Sunnah, as understood in mainstream Islamic scholarship and published fatwa bodies. Scholars do differ on some questions; where they do, we take the more careful view. Our work is also halal in how it is funded: no interest-based products or deals.
This is not a fatwa. Scholars differ, and this is our house rule, not a ruling. We describe what we did and why, and we do not claim any endorsement.
Choices this covers
- No music or musical sounds
- Review before publishing
- Prophets and Companions are never depicted
- Tools we provide may be used in ways we cannot see
- We act on what we know about what we host
Questions
If a choice affects you and you want to know the reason behind it, ask us. We will not hide or blur the basis. If you think we have got something wrong, please tell us and we will look at it again.
