Bahrain Marathon Relay adds a children's race for 20 November; teams entered by 25 October go in the official booklet

Organisers expect more than 200 teams for the 30 km relay at Bahrain International Circuit, which this year includes a 4 km event for runners aged eight to 13.

The NBK Bahrain Marathon Relay will be held on Friday 20 November at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, and organisers expect more than 200 teams, the Gulf Daily News reported on 18 October.

The course. The main race covers 30 km in 10 legs of 3 km each. According to the report, runners will loop around the circuit's surroundings, run out towards Bilaj Al Jazayer, in Zallaq, and then return to the circuit.

A new race for children. This year's programme adds a kids' relay for teams of runners aged eight to 13, run over 4 km in four legs of 1 km.

Who runs it. Bahrain Road Runners organise the event together with the Bahrain Athletics Association and The British Club, with National Bank of Kuwait as title sponsor. Bahrain Road Runners' vice-chairman Khalifa Najem told the paper this is the third consecutive year his club has staged it with the two partners.

Dates to note. Entry is through the Tathaker app. Najem told the GDN that teams registered by 25 October will be listed in the official race booklet; the report did not give a final closing date for entries.

Prizes. As well as the overall winners, the top three teams in each of 11 categories will receive awards. The categories group entrants by sector, including banks and finance, healthcare and hotels, IT and media, sports clubs, and universities and schools.

Why it matters: organisers expect more than 200 teams, which would be a record, and the new children's race opens the event to families. The booklet date falls well before race day.
