Egypt's drug regulator tells creators: medical-product promos may need clearance before they go live
After a workshop for influencers on 15 October, the Egyptian Drug Authority says it is watching social media and will act on unlicensed or misleading promotion.
Content creators in Egypt who promote medicines, supplements or other medical products are on notice. The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) says it will keep tracking that content online and deal with ads that break its rules, after holding a free training session on the subject for influencers.
What happened. The session, on the rules for advertising medical products, took place on Thursday 15 October at the authority's offices in Maadi, Cairo, with registration closing the day before, according to Youm7. It was run by Dr Moaz Masoud, who heads the EDA's department for marketing and advertising material, with the managers responsible for ad review and approval and for monitoring and complaints.
What creators were told. The agenda covered which ads, promotional, educational and awareness materials fall under regulation, how review and approval work, and how the authority monitors content. A central point, in the EDA's account, was the line between legitimate health awareness and commercial advertising: before promoting a product, creators should confirm that it is properly licensed and the information correct, and avoid unproven claims or messages that could push people to use medical products unsafely.
The warning. EDA assistant head Dr Yassin Ragaei said monitoring of media and digital content about medical products would continue, and that breaches would be handled under the applicable legal and regulatory procedures. He described awareness as an early step alongside enforcement, and urged creators not to publish any promotional content until it meets the regulatory requirements.
Why it matters: For creators who take paid work from health and supplement brands, the authority is spelling out that a product plug may need approval before it goes live, and that it is looking.
