El Gouna 9th edition (15–23 Oct) sets $310k CineGouna slate and new Series lab

Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival will run its ninth edition from 15 to 23 October 2026 with CineGouna Funding selecting 13 development and six post-production projects to compete for awards totalling $310,000 after more than 310 submissions, plus a new CineGouna Series lab presenting six of 125+ Arabic TV projects on 19 October, Ahram Online reported from the Cairo programme unveiling.

Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival will run its ninth edition from 15 to 23 October 2026 with an expanded CineGouna industry platform that is the actionable core for Arab producers this month, Ahram Online reported from the Cairo press conference unveiling the programme.

Artistic director Andrew Mohsen said more than 310 film projects were submitted to CineGouna Funding from across the Arab world, with 13 projects in development and six films in post-production selected to compete for funding totalling $310,000. The ninth edition also introduces CineGouna Series: more than 125 Arabic television projects were submitted, six were selected for a development lab and industry market, and those projects will be presented on 19 October followed by one-on-one meetings with producers, platforms, studios and distributors. Organisers also flagged Safe Harbour MENA support for forcibly displaced or at-risk filmmakers and a public talks strand; Egyptian actress Mona Zaki will receive the Creative Achievement Award at the 15 October opening, Ahram separately reported.

Coverage notes a record ten Arab films in the lineup and a push toward year-round institutional work; Hada does not invent ticket prices, full competition lists, or unverified award splits beyond the stated $310,000 aggregate.

Why it matters for Culture desks: a hard mid-October market window on Egypt’s Red Sea with quantified development/post money and a new series track—usable calendar copy for funds desks while Saudi’s December Red Sea week is dark.
