Zagora's Trans-Saharan film festival launches a first programme for documentaries in advanced development, applications to 15 October

The Trans-Saharan International Film Festival of Zagora has launched a first-time programme for documentary projects at an advanced stage of development, with applications open from 15 September to 15 October 2026 ahead of the festival’s 20th edition on 6–11 December.

The International Trans-Saharan Film Festival of Zagora, in southern Morocco, is adding a new documentary programme to its 20th edition, named «ترونصحراء دوك» in Cine-philia's Arabic report. Moroccan outlet Cine-philia describes it as a programme launched for the first time, aimed at directors and producers whose documentary projects have reached advanced stages of development and who need support to complete them and prepare the finished film for screening.

Selected projects may draw on several forms of support, depending on what each needs and what the programme can provide: dramaturgical advice, picture and sound editing, colour grading, subtitling, technical completion and professional guidance. The programme also aims to connect filmmakers with industry and technical experts, to improve the projects’ chances of reaching festivals, film markets and audiences. Cine-philia mentions no cash grant.

It favours projects with a distinct cinematic vision and artistic identity, built on personal approaches to reality; themes named include memory, identity, the environment, cultures and social change.

The festival opened applications on 15 September and will take them until 15 October 2026. According to Cine-philia, applications go through the festival’s official site. The festival’s own site lists the 20th edition for 6–11 December 2026.
